When you hear the word “technique” associated with prayer, I am sure the visuals pop into your head… kneeling before the Lord, laying prostrate, being inside your prayer closet, raised hands, the list goes on. What popped into my head today is the thought that people today may be using prayer as a technique to accomplish something, something similar to manifestation.
As a part of the Prayer Station Ministry, we fully believe that Prayer Changes Things, but we say this knowing that God is fully in control. We can take our requests to Him, but He alone can heal, not us controlling Him with our prayer requests.
We cannot fully understand, or comprehend the scale of God’s greatness, and how each storyline is meant to play out. As I pray for healing of my legs, for full restoration, I can’t simply consider my desire to walk again. Is God teaching me patience, or an increase of faith? Will my healing affect the salvation of another? I have to understand and believe that God is in control, He hears my prayers, and He has a plan.
Prayer was not intended to be used as a technique to accomplish our own agenda or goals. Remember that God is all-powerful and in control. He has designed prayer as a way to communicate with the Almighty, that we can bring our requests before Him, but understand that He alone controls the outcome. And I am good with that.
I pray that this article brings a new perspective on prayer, and I urge you to take advantage each day of the opportunity we have to be in relationship with the one true God, and to petition Him, knowing that He is in control.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:6-7
